Abstract

This study examines the effects of capital market understanding and capital market socialization on students’ investment interest at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Cenderawasih. The study employed a quantitative explanatory research design. The population comprised students from the Accounting, Management, and Economics departments. Purposive sampling was applied to students enrolled in capital-market-related courses who participated in joint lectures with the Papua Branch of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Data were collected through Google Forms, yielding 145 usable responses. The questionnaire contained 24 items, with eight items each measuring Capital Market Understanding (X1), Capital Market Socialization (X2), and Student Investment Interest (Y). Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM. Bootstrapping results indicate that Capital Market Understanding has a positive and significant effect on Student Investment Interest (β = 0.425; t = 4.075; p < 0.001), while Capital Market Socialization also has a positive and significant effect (β = 0.474; t = 4.817; p < 0.001). The R² value of 0.7224 indicates that the two predictors explain 72.24% of the variance in investment interest. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening both students’ understanding and capital market socialization to foster investment interest.
